What’s in the Vault? | Smith & Wesson Model 19-5

Jimmy G opens the vault to reveal one of his most unique custom firearms: a Savage Stevens 311H short-barrel shotgun. Originally a 28-inch hunting-style double barrel, this classic 12-gauge was transformed into a compact, hard-hitting build.

Custom Modifications

Jimmy had the shotgun sawed down virtually flush and gave it a tactical makeover. Features include:

  • Picatinny rail mounted for accessories

  • Hand stop for control and safety

  • Custom stock finish carved into a “femur bone” style design

  • Cerakote finish in matte black with O.D. green accents

  • Marine Corps red safety for a standout detail

Practical Upgrades

To make it functional beyond looks, the build includes:

  • XS Big Dot Tritium front sight for low-light use

  • Chambering that works well with Aguila mini-shells and Federal short rounds, making it surprisingly pleasant to shoot

  • Standard 12-gauge loads that turn this into a brutal range beast

Final Thoughts

Jimmy calls the 311H short-barrel build a “real beast”—a compact shotgun that combines old-school design with tactical style. This was his very first NFA Form 1 project, and it remains a favorite in the vault.
