Mastering the CP33 Cheek Shot
Cheek Shooting the Kel-Tec CP33: A Fun Twist on Rimfire Practice
Jimmy G, the Italian Guerilla Gorilla, is back at the home range with a truly unique setup. In this video, he puts the Kel-Tec CP33 to the test using an unorthodox but effective shooting method: cheek shooting. This isn’t just about style—it’s about control, comfort, and a whole lot of fun.
What Makes the Kel-Tec CP33 Special?
The CP33 is a .22 Long Rifle pistol with a standout feature: quad-stacked magazines that hold 33 rounds. That’s a whole lot of plinking before you ever need to reload. But Jimmy points out an important caveat—it prefers high-velocity rounds that are 40 grain or above. This rimfire pistol isn’t just a range toy; it has real-world training value when used correctly.
Jimmy’s Custom Setup
Jimmy's CP33 is decked out with:
A Holosun green dot sight
Strike Industries muzzle device
A no-frills but functional light
3D-printed angled foregrip and finger stop
This configuration, paired with the cheek shooting technique, transforms a lightweight rimfire into a fast, controlled shooter perfect for rapid drills.
What is Cheek Shooting?
Cheek shooting involves pressing the pistol's brace or frame lightly against your cheek while stabilizing it with your support hand. Jimmy demonstrates this method, showcasing how it improves accuracy and speed. It’s especially useful on pistols without a stock and is ideal for those looking to replicate a pseudo-rifle feel in a compact package.
Where the Technique Comes From
Jimmy gives credit where it’s due: the cheek shooting method was popularized—if not invented—by Rhett Neumayer of Demonstrated Concepts. Rhett’s technique has spread widely across YouTube and Instagram, offering a low-cost way to get more control out of PDW-style pistols. It works best with non-reciprocating charging handles and requires ejection direction awareness depending on your shooting hand.
Why You Should Try It
If you’ve got a rimfire pistol like the CP33 or something similar, cheek shooting can open up new training possibilities. It’s fast. It’s cheap. And above all, it’s fun.
